The Administrative Core serves as the central coordinating hub of the Duke CFAR and promotes the Center's goal of providing comprehensive infrastructure and shared research support to advance HIV research and Early Stage Investigator (ESI) career development in alignment with both the National CFAR Mission and the NIH Strategic Plan for HIV and HIV-related research. The Core provides scientific leadership, support, and oversight for all activities, including financial management; establishment and engagement of strategic partnerships; and communications, collaborations, activities coordination, targeted outreach, and strategic planning.
Community Engagement Program
Sarah “Sadie” Wilson, PhD, Director, CFAR Community Engagement Program
Elizabeth “Lizzy” Knippler, MPH, CFAR Community Engagement Program Leader
The Administrative Core helps the CFAR engage with community members in Durham and the surrounding area, as well as communities and key partners across the U.S. and internationally who are impacted by CFAR research.
We facilitate conversation and outreach primarily through our support of the Duke Collaborative Community Council (D3C). The D3C meets with CFAR researchers to provide community input on grant proposals, implementation of research studies, and ways of communicating and applying key takeaways from research. The Admin Core also helps sponsor D3C outreach events to connect with the broader community. Learn more about the D3C, its services, and outreach events.
Our Community Engagement team provides consultation and support to CFAR investigators to discuss strategies for community engagement, share relevant resources, and prepare for meetings with the D3C. We also work across Cores to improve clear communication for interdisciplinary audiences and identify areas for integration of community engagement strategies and collaboration with community partners across the CFAR.
