Opportunities and challenges for population-based cervical cancer screening in developing countries.

HPV testing and the option for screening using self-collected vaginal samples are changing the approaches for population-based screening and treatment in developing countries. PATH is collaborating in the implementation of HPV testing in the national programs in four Central America countries where more than 100,000 women will be screened within the public systems. Additionally, PATH is also collaborating in the implementation of HPV testing in health networks in three African countries. Learnings about the opportunities for completing screening, evaluation and treatment will be discussed during the presentation. Dr. Jeronimo is a gynecologist oncologist by training and currently acts as Senior Advisor for Women's Cancers at PATH in Seattle, WA.
