CFAR Funding Opportunity
The CFAR is committed to the ongoing support of new lines of research that have great
promise to further the success of more comprehensive research proposals and advance the
field. Although modest, these grants can provide the resources to develop preliminary
data for suitable innovative proposals or in the case of Special Projects, to overcome a
specific impediment to progress or embark on an independent but related line of investigation.
The focus of these applications must be on research related to HIV/AIDS.
Applications will be accepted twice each year according to specific deadlines set by the CFAR
Executive Committee. Applications will be promptly reviewed by an internal review committee
and funding will begin within one month of review. Each application may request up to $40,000 of
support. It is anticipated that a maximum of 3 - 5 awards will be made for each cycle. Priority
will be given to young investigators and applicants who have not previously been recipients of
these awards, although applications will be accepted from prior recipients.
Complete application packages should include the following:
1.) A current CV
2.) A brief discussion of why this application is innovative and/or important and
how it will lead to future and more comprehensive investigations of relevance.
3.) A three to five page Research Precis in the following format:
Abstract
Introduction and Background
Hypotheses
Specific Aims
Work Accomplished
Methods
Anticipated Analyses
Expected Results
Limitations
